my story

Richard grew up in Canada's Okanagan Valley and started dance at a young age. By the time he was thirteen he had been selected to attend Canada's prestigious National Ballet School as a full time student. Moving to Toronto, Richard followed his passion for ballet and trained with some of the world's top teachers. He had the opportunity to dance with the National Ballet of Canada numerous times, including the world premiere of John Alleyne's Tristan and Isolde. Richard also completed all his Cecchetti Syllabus examinations, becoming one of the first male dancers in Western Canada to achieve the Advanced certification. Most recently he performed with the Albany Berkshire Ballet and with Sarah Berges Contemporary Ballet in both San Francisco and New York City. Pursuing other forms of dance beyond ballet, Richard performed professionally with Jean Ann Ryan Productions, Princess Cruises and Royal Caribbean Productions where he was fortunate enough to dance many featured roles. Some of his favourite musical productions have included productions of Promises, Promises, Singin' in the Rain and Sweet Charity. Richard's vast performing experience has allowed him to discover his passion for teaching. He guest teaches at many studios and is particularly passionate about helping adult beginners discover their passion for dance in a fun and safe environment. Richard is also an adjudicator for numerous competitions across the US including Showstoppers, VIP Dance, Elite Dance Cup, Backstage Performing Arts Competition, Beyond the Stars and many others.
